Purdue cruised past Illinois State, then came within a set of getting knocked out before roaring back against Dayton to make their third straight Sweet 16, the first time they’ve done that since 2010-13. The Boilers play BYU Thursday at 11 AM, with the winner facing Pitt or Kansas on Saturday.
Purdue earned a program-best 6 seed for the NCAA tournament and will open play against Illinois State Thursday at 7; if they win, they’ll face the Marquette-Dayton winner Friday at 5.
Purdue’s excellent season ended with an 0-3 sweep at the hands of eventual champion Kentucky; the Boilers would finish #7 in the final AVCA poll, and a program-record 4 players were honored as All-Americans.
7-seed Purdue came back from an 18-24 deficit in the opening set, fighting off six set points to win 26-24 and go on to sweep High Point 3-0 in NCAA second-round play. The Boilers will face 10-seed Oregon at 8:30 PM Sunday on ESPNU.
