Break out the turtleneck-sport coat combo...it's time for B1G season folks
Before the Villanova game, we all congregated over email to discuss expectations for the season. We'll try to do these from time to time to get a sense of how everyone's feeling about the season.

Time to distract everyone from the abysmal horror that is our football team, and talk basketball.

Last year Purdue closed the pre-NCAA Tournament season with wins against hapless Illinois and Penn State, and losses against the much stronger Ohio State, Michigan State, and Wisconsin. This year has been different.
It does mean something that Purdue was able to compete against the #4 team in the nation, in their own arena where they have won 25 games in a row. But competing isn't going to be enough, not with what remains on Purdue's schedule.
Purdue has never been a powerhouse recruiting program; the last really good class was in 2012 and since 2005 Purdue has found itself in last place in the rankings more than anyone else.
Matt Painter bet big when he decided that he would eschew both traditional basketball lineups and current trends, and double-down on the slow half court game that Purdue is known for, focusing the offense around a trio of bigs, each of whom could start for most college programs.
