2024 Purdue Football Coaching Search - Jeff Monken
Who Is He?
Jeff Monken has been the head coach at Army since 2014. Before that, he coached Georgia Southern for a few years before they were FBS. During that time, he cleaned up, going 38-16 in four seasons. At Army, he has taken a very challenging football program — everbody has to be Army cadets — and has taken them to heights not reached in many years. In 2024, he’s had his third double-digit win season, plus he’s had two more nine-win seasons. That is quite impressive.
Why would he be successful at Purdue?
He’s an adaptable coach, who presumably wouldn’t run the triple option in West Lafayette. He’s an experienced coach who has won in challenging environments — which sounds kind of perfect for a coach coming into Purdue. He won’t be scared of the disadvntages. He’s also known as a disciplinarian and Purdue has sorely lacked that for multiple coaches now.
Why could he flop at Purdue?
I’m confident he’d adapt to the talent he has but if he couldn’t, that could sink a coach. I don’t think there’s much way he’d be a total flop. Nobody with his level of experience could turn out as disastrous as 2024 did for Purdue.
Would he come to Purdue?
I imagine he would. Monken is 56 so his next move — especially if it’s to a major conference — would set up nicely to be his last.
