Biggie is everything.
All in 2017
THE FIRST ROUND CURSE IS OVER. The Boilermakers advance on the backs of Vince Edwards and National Player of the Year Caleb Swanigan (yeah I said it), and have a shot at the Sweet 16 this Saturday.
Any way you slice it, Purdue needs its junior trio of Isaac Haas, Vince Edwards, and Dakota Mathias to be a Sweet 16 (or beyond) team. Kenpom and Basketball Reference did all the hard work.
Gold and Black Illustrated's Brian Neubert joins Michael and Aneesh to talk about Caleb Swanigan's improvement (1:00), Biggie's improved relationship with the team (9:30), Carsen Edwards coming off the bench (12:00) and him being on the same page with the coaching staff (17:45), comparing Carsen with previous point guard situations at Purdue and addressing rumors about his unhappiness (19:45), areas where Coach Matt Painter has grown over the years (28:30), whether a new coach at IU will impact the recruiting dynamic (32:30), Dakota Mathias' consistency (37:00), Vince(nt) Edwards' lack of consistency and changed role when Swanigan leaves (41:00).
Brian also gives his thoughts on the season finale at Northwestern (49:00), the profile of a bad tourney matchup for Purdue in the NCAA Tournament (51:00), and his preferred first round tournament city.
Luke Winn did a Swanigan profile in SI. You should read it. We had a few thoughts.
IndyStar's IU Insider Zach Osterman talks about Atlanta, IU's injuries, drop-off after Yogi Ferrell, Thomas Bryant's sophomore season growth, how IU and Purdue, and how big this rivalry game is for Tom Crean.
I wrote way too many words and embedded way too many GIFs of Purdue's most impressive victory of the season but idc idc idc.
J Money and Aneesh GET BACK INTO THIS PODCAST LIFE to talk about Purdue's inconsistencies, the Penn State/MSU/Nebraska/Northwestern stretch, balancing Biggie Swanigan's flaws with his sheer dominance, Purdue struggling in end-of-game situations, Dakota Mathias' improvement, PJ Thompson being perfect, and Isaac Haas being the best teammate but the embodiment of Purdue's inconsistency.
All that, plus the dangerous games left on the schedule, whether Purdue can catch Wisconsin for the B10 title, Matt Painter's best offense, Tom Crean being a weirdo, the Basil Smotherman situation, and predictions for the Maryland and Indiana road trip.
