Purdue VB swept Minnesota to start conference play; the Boilers are #5 in both AVCA and Massey and look to defend their ranking and unbeaten conference record against Illinois and Rutgers this weekend.
Three more matches, three more wins: VB moves to 6-0 and stays #3 in Massey, moving up to #9 in AVCA. They’ll face #5/4 Louisville Friday and either Xavier or Lipscomb on Saturday in the Louisville Invitational.
Purdue survived some spirited play by Maryland and Rutgers to post a couple of road wins in the run-up to their biggest week of the season; they will face #3 Wisconsin and #10 Minnesota on the road Friday and Sunday, respectively, as they try to draw within one game of the conference-leading Badgers.
Purdue swept Northwestern and stopped #3 Wisconsin in four sets to move within two games of the first-place Badgers and Huskers; they’ll look to close the gap Friday against Maryland and Sunday against Rutgers as part of a four-match road trip.
VB was upset by Michigan State in five sets, then fell at Nebraska in four, dropping to 12th in the AVCA poll and 13th in Massey. They swept Northwestern Wednesday and will host Wisconsin at noon on Halloween.
Purdue VB split its matches last weekend, falling 1-3 at Ohio State but coming back for a 3-2 win over Penn State. The Boilers switched spots with OSU and are ranked #7 by AVCA and #6 by Massey going into this week’s matches, Wednesday vs Michigan State and Saturday at Nebraska. Both will be televised on BTN.
Purdue VB returned the favor at Illinois on Wednesday, dropping the Illini in five sets, then swept Iowa on Saturday to move to 5-1 in conference play and remain #6 in the AVCA poll. The Boilers will finish their road trip at Ohio State on Friday, then host Penn State Sunday in Holloway.
