A few months ago, in my typical wasting of time today scrolling around the glut of sports blogsites out there, I came across one that I didn't know existed but have been looking for at the same time.
You see, we here at Boiled Sports exist to discuss all sports but we have a particular affinity for our beloved Boilermakers. As such, I thought it'd be fun to have a counterpart at our rival, such as they are, IU. And my hopes were answered with Defend The Rock: The (Un) Official Indiana University Athletics Blog.
My, what a catchy name!
I know that I personally will be keeping a close eye on the goings-on over there simply because I'm a jerk and I like to pick on defenseless university athletic programs and basically make fun of things to feel better about myself.
I jumped back to the early posts of their site (back in December) and noted with glee that they posted the commercials that have evidently been running in Indiana (boilerdowd, I assume you've seen these) about the football team.
Let's take a look at them:
Now, I'm not sure what my favorite part of these is. For one thing, yes, very clever to have the guy sneaking in to touch (I guess) the Rock dressed in psuedo-Purdue colors. I actually do think this is kind of funny, although I'm fairly certain nobody at an engineering school would be dumb enough to think they would be able to make off with a large rock on their own. Come to think of it, who the hell would steal the "Rock"?
Second, I love the fact that there is nobody in the Stadium. Not one person. Kind of indicative of a typical home football Saturday in ole Bloomington, eh?
And the best part of these ads is the sad little plea at the end of the clips: "CROWDS HELP WIN GAMES."
So do decent football players but, you're right, let's not get ahead of ourselves.
