Party like it's 1999.... + 1.... again
It was the year 2000. The future had arrived. It was also the last time that the Boilermakers beat the Ohio State and Michigan football teams in the same year. Now we can add 2009 to that list, and even better, we can cross of 1966 as the last time Purdue won at the Big House.
I don't even know where to begin with this one. It was a very exciting game. There was some great trickeration. Lots of laterals. A bad call on a muffed punt to give the ball to Michigan and a marginal call to give Purdue the ball on a forward lateral.
Joey Elliott was 28-for-39 for 367 yards and two touchdowns with another on the ground. Brandon Minor was a beast for Michigan. Bolden had nearly 100 yards on the ground and the Smith Bros. combined for nearly 170 receiving. Throw in a sprinkling of Carson Wiggs with a great left hook and what do you get? A nice win and another very confounded Purdue fan. It's hard not to be frustrated and think of what might have been. Wins against Oregon and Notre Dame and they're unexpectedly bowling. Instead, it's ups and downs all season.
At the same time, it's really hard not to be encouraged. Losing horribly last week and winning at Michigan in consecutive weeks. The team has heart. There's no doubt about that.
