Time for a Turnaround?
(The weather forecast looks bad…but those jerseys look worse)
If you’re a Purdue fan, you know all too well about the misfortune that circles around contests with Minnesota. From ACL injuries to phantom pass interference calls, most Purdue fans can feel the bad juju when they think about games v Goldy. Atop all of this, Coach Tightpants is an unlikable self-centered sideshow, who has pretty much owned Brohm’s squad (3-1 v our Boilers).
Another point of consternation is that one Jeff Brohm’s greatest adversary will probably make an appearance tomorrow afternoon. No, not the injury bug (it’s already here), but worse…RAIN!!!!
Also, that injury disease has ripped through our Boilermakers during the last two games. Bell, Doerue, Deen are all maybes…Durham, Trice, Horvath and Rice are still out. With so many out last week, Purdue’s offense struggled to just put one TD on the board v Illinois. So of course, Purdue is favored v Minny as they lick their wounds from their loss to the mighty BGSU Falcons. *shrug
Your pals from the Handsome Hour told you that they don’t think a victory is likely, but a win would put Purdue just two wins out of a bowl game, with seven to play…as they head into the bye week. One can dream.
Before this season, I thought aloud (during a QuickCast) about Jeff Brohm exorcising some of his demons to set the program straight from two-straight lousy seasons. First, he needed to win his first opener as Purdue’s HC…
Mission accomplished.
Next, it was the chase to not drop a game to an awful team…
Looky here…they did it again.
Another thing we all wanted to see changed, was the trend of losing close games. Of course, Purdue’s new look, tough-as-nails defense closed out both Oregon State and Illinois.
But we’re not done…I’m feeling greedy.
A win v. Minny would be a victory over Mother Nature, and maybe, just maybe, it would be a win over crappy luck all-together. Who knows? If the Boilers can beat MInnesota tomorrow, it could be a catalyst to even bigger, better things.
Let’s get crazy.
Brohm’s first road win at Purdue versus a ranked foe? (Iowa and aOSU will most assuredly be chances to turn over a new leaf)
A win over Wisconsin?
This lousy streak dates back to when Cowboy Joe was on the sideline, so it’s not just Brohm’s problem, but all of ours, as a Purdue family. That’s 14-straight losses over 17 seasons. Neither LBD, nor your favorite Purdue fansite had been born the last time Purdue beat the Badgers.
So will Minnesota be a fulcrum point for Coach Brohm’s era at Purdue? You know, an inverse of the 2004 Wisconsin game for Coach Tiller? Probably not. But tomorrow at noon, hope springs again at noon.
