We Finally Did It: BS Outlasts BHGP

POW!

A long time ago, in a land known as the aughts, there were a handful of idiots who felt compelled to write about their Big Ten teams. Among those early sites were Black Heart Gold Pants, Boiled Sports and a few others. BHGP and BS immediately kicked everyone else’s ass on the cell block and then glared at one another across the exercise yard every day. Punches were never thrown, but ooh, there was some posturing.

Now comes word that they’ll be departing their site, which I have chosen to take as a victory. Finally, good has prevailed over evil. The internets will no longer be stained by the poor-quality gifs and MS Paint-quality graphics that BHGP has put upon the world. As I said, I consider this a victory for BS over BHGP, thus the gif you see above.

Finally, we’ll all be able to sleep better, knowing that there will be less dreck about the forgotten stepchild of the Big Ten out among the cornfields. The Arkansas of the Big Ten, if you will. No, the black and gold will rightfully belong only to Purdue from this day forward. We had always hoped for this… and hope is a good thing, maybe the best of things. And no good thing ever dies. Which is why this iteration of BHGP is dying -- because it’s no good. Make sense?

You can’t believe anything they say, right up until the end. Even in the post of their departure, they have this little Hillary Clinton-esque rearrangement of the facts:

Six weeks (and one Iowa football credit-card-slash-hat-purchase scandal) later, SB Nation came calling.  They wouldn't allow us to use a team name or mascot in our name, which killed the then-current moniker.  Jebus provided the developers with Black Heart Gold Pants as a placeholder, fully expecting we would pick a different name later.  We never agreed on anything else, and eventually that was just the name of the site.

Yeah, I feel you, boys. I would pretend that name was just a lark, too. Wouldn’t want everyone to know that was the extent of your creativity.

But okay, maybe there were some things they did that were okay. If nothing else, they got Dan Dakich to make (even more of) an ass of himself on the interwebs. And they have been consistent in mocking Joe Paterno since before Paterno was revealed as a criminal who harbored vile criminals. Oh, and they churned out almost a decade’s worth of content. Yeah, so there’s that.

However, that’s as sentimental as we’ll get. Truth is, we’re happy to see them go. Filthy harlots.

They’ll be starting an Iowa sports variant of farmersonly.com in the coming months, so best of luck with that, boys. Meanwhile, SBN is looking to replace them at BHGP, so I encourage one of you to take it over and then post nothing but Purdue content.

Bye, BHGP.

Dust to dust...
