We don't keep track of such statistics because it would require more work than we're willing to do, but based on my random memory (which, let's be honest -- is splotchy at best), this might be the longest stretch of non-posting we've had since we became... I don't know...regular posters? When we launched the site, there would be months (usually in the summer) where we'd go into semi-hibernation and only post 5-10 times a month. But those were rare -- as we noted upon our seventh birthday, we've averaged around 1.3 posts per day over those seven years. As I said, we generally don't focus on statistics, but that's one we're proud of -- the longevity. I guess it makes us the Craig Biggio of Purdue sports blogging -- we're accumulators. But we just took eight days off from the site and, well, you all survived. Hey, being with family around the holidays is just so awesome and fulfulling, who has time for sports sites?
2013 was a different year for all of us in the BS community. We watched Purdue basketball limp through the most painful season we've seen since we began doing this. And then Purdue football followed that up with not only the worst season in BS history, not only the worst Bdowd or I have ever seen, but perhaps the worst season they've literally ever had. That's hard to "wrap your mind around," as the nonsensical expression goes.
In July, BS switched formats and it was SUPER WELL-RECEIVED. None of you guys bitched or moaned. It was a bitchless, moanless experience! (Sometimes you actually don't need the "sarcasm font" so many people say is necessary online.)
Actually, we know there were bumps in the road. And we appreciate those of you who have stuck around. And because we know you love change around here, there will be another change to the look and feel within the first couple of months of the year. However, we once again ask you to give things a chance because THIS TIME IT WILL BE DIFFERENT WE STILL LOVE YOU PLEASE COME BACK WE'LL GO ON VACATION TOGETHER.
No, no, I kid, I kid. Bloguin has invested in some significant improvements and we're actually excited about them as we do think the experience will be better for readers.
One of the things I loathe are lazy, year-end wrap-up posts, which is one of the main reasons we don't do them here. That and we're too lazy. But sports is about looking forward at what happens next and what is coming up. The painful end to the '12-'13 basketball season is behind us. The dreadful 2013 football season is in the rear-view mirror. So much potential lies ahead. 2014 could have similar bumps, but it also has limitless potential.
So let's have some fun. Choo choo.
